Mount Pleasant ‘FA want to win for Jamaica’
KINGSTON:
Mount Pleasant Football Academy departed yesterday for Santiago, Dominican Republic, ready to deliver for Jamaica when they play the first leg of the Concacaf Caribbean Cup final against O&M Universidad FC.
The travelling contingent, led by head coach Theodore Whitmore and his technical staff, is focused and fully prepared for what is expected to be a highly competitive matchup.
The first leg will take place tomorrow at 6 p.m. (Jamaica time) at the Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez.
Speaking prior to departure, assistant coach Davion Ferguson expressed confidence in the team's readiness.
"It won't be an easy task, but we're ready, we're prepared. Our mission is more than just Mount Pleasant," Ferguson said.
"We want to win, we want to win for Mount Pleasant, we want to win for St Ann, we want to win for the ownership and the leadership of the organisation. And more importantly, we want to win for Jamaica because based on what is happening in the country and everything, I think this will go a far way in helping us as a nation to really have something to smile about."
Mount Pleasant are coming of a 5-2 semi-final aggregate win over Trinidad and Tobago's Defence Force. The St Ann outfit thumped the Trinidadian-club 4-0 in their first-leg semis, before losing the return match 1-0 at the National Stadium.
Mount Pleasant FA will host the return leg of the final at the National Stadium on December 2, starting at 7 p.m.
