‘I want to be just like Shelly-Ann’ - Edwin Allen star has big dreams for career
Fourteen-year-old Tina Clayton, along with her twin sister Tia, wowed sports fans on Saturday at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships, held on Saturday at the National Stadium.
In an interview with CENTRAL STAR, the teen said that she is looking ahead to someday going professional, and her inspiration is Olympian Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.
“I would like to be a person like Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, as she never gives up, no matter what. That’s who I want to become – someone like her,” she said.
Tina said if she falls short of her dreams of going pro, then her ‘back-up’ career choice is that of a police officer, for the simple reason that she loves the role they play in society.
A still jubilant Tia said she is still on a high from competing with her sister after they both got the quinella in the 100 and 200 metres.
“I have to continue to work hard to make my mother and father proud,” she said.
She also said that sometimes she gives her twin a pep talk to get back on track.
Tina had high praises for her coach, Michael Dyke, and others on the team who encourage her to “not throw away her talent but to do her best”.
