Teacher accused of selling house he didn't own get $1m bail
A St Catherine teacher accused of selling a house he did not own and collecting more than $2 million from an unsuspecting buyer has been granted bail when he appeared in court on Friday.
Raheim Douglas, 25, of Twickenham Park Housing Scheme, was offered bail in the sum of $1,000,000 when he appeared before Senior Parish Court Judge Desiree Alleyne on March 20, 2026.
The court heard that Douglas' bail conditions were modified, with his mother now accepted as surety.
Attorney-at-law Alexander Shaw told the court that with Douglas in custody, he would be unable to make restitution to the complainant. The judge then granted bail, noting that the move would put the accused in a position to repay the money.
As part of his bail conditions, Douglas is required to report to the Central Village Police Station three times weekly. His travel documents have also been surrendered, and he is to return to court on May 5, 2026.
Allegations are that in October 2024, the complainant was in the Twickenham Park Housing Scheme when he noticed an empty house. He was reportedly approached by Douglas, who lived nearby.
Douglas allegedly produced a key, opened the house, and told the complainant that the property was for sale at $8 million.
The complainant subsequently made payments totalling $2.4 million over a period of time.
The alleged scam was uncovered in April 2025 when the complainant attempted to obtain documents for the property and realised something was amiss.
A report was made to the police, and following investigations, Douglas was arrested and charged.
