Sunshine Girls crush Bermuda

The Sunshine Girls recorded their second straight victory at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games yesterday, dismantling Bermuda 79-19 at the Ciudad Juan Bosch Sports Complex in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Fresh off a dominant win over hosts Dominican Republic on Monday, the reigning champions again stamped their authority, racing to a 19-5 lead by the end of the first quarter.
They pressed home the advantage in the second stanza, outscoring Bermuda 17-7 to take a commanding 36-12 lead into halftime.
The Jamaicans showed little mercy after the break, stretching the margin to 54-17 at the end of the third quarter before completing the rout with a 25-2 fourth-quarter blitz.
Simone Gordon led the scoring with 35 points from 47 attempts, supported by Kellian Hunter who netted 25 of her 32 shots. Tamera Jarrett was the most accurate shooter of the day, sinking 10 of her 11 attempts, while Jada Ricketts added nine from 13.
Defensively, Jamaica was equally dominant, forcing 17 interceptions and 13 deflections to consistently disrupt Bermuda’s rhythm. Tianna Reid led the charge with five interceptions, four deflections and a defensive rebound, while Gordon contributed 12 offensive rebounds in the shooting circle.
The Sunshine Girls continue their title defence today against Barbados. Bermuda, meanwhile, slumped to their second consecutive defeat and will look to rebound against St Lucia.
