Get the playoffs on the way, says Jureidini
Harbour View general manager Clyde Jureidini has urged local football's stakeholders to swiftly shift their focus to the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) playoffs after Mount Pleasant Football Academy were fined $25,000 for a quota breach yesterday.
A ruling from the Jamaica Football Federation's competition's committee said Mount Pleasant were found guilty of exceeding the number of foreign players allowed on a match card in the JPL. The club was, however, found not guilty of fielding ineligible players, namely Haitians Angelo Exilus and Jeudy Johnson, as the committee found both players had legally transferred to the club during the international window.
Johnson and Exilus had signed with Mount Pleasant in January, but had represented Real Hope in the Concacaf Champions Cup in February outside of the transfer window, in breach of FIFA regulations.
The competition's committee ruled the available documents proved both players were registered to Mount Pleasant, and, as such, the blame should fall on their former club, Real Hope.
Jureidini believes the judgement was fair and the matter should now be put to bed. The Harbour View manager said the release clearly outlined that under FIFA laws and hence under Concacaf competition rules, the two players in question were registered within the transfer window to Mount Pleasant. He said Real Hope were the ones likely be sanctioned by Concacaf for the breach.
He noted also that the second issue concerning the listing of seven international registered players on a match card, was also handled fairly.
"The JFF regulations for the JPL state that you can have six foreign-based players on the field at any one time. From the match card presented seven players were listed but only five played so they do not lose the points or the game by a 3-0 margin to Racing United," Jureidini said.
"They listed seven players one more than the allowed six, and they are fined $25,000 and that for me is clear," he added.
"We should get on with it (playoffs), and with haste. It unfortunately took some time but I assume they were doing their due diligence and checks and double checks. It has dampened things over the last week or so but we have to move on and get the playoffs on the way," Jureidini stated.
Early last week, Cavalier Football Club had filed a complaint that Mount Pleasant's recent acquisitions, Exilus and Johnson, had breached the transfer rules.
However, the JFF competitions committee ruled that Article 6.1 of the regulation, . the FIFA regulations on the status on transfer of players, stated that as an exception to the rule, a player can be transferred outside the established window if the player contract has expired close to the end of the transfer window and if the player contract was terminated close to the end of the transfer window.
The JFF competitions committee said it has in its possession all termination letters and international transfer certification which indicates that the players were duly transferred to Mount Pleasant.
