TikTok chats blossom into island romance - 55-year-old US widow falls in love with 29-year-old Jamaican
Kimberly Hurst says love caught her completely off guard. At 55, she never expected to be swept up by a Jamaican man nearly three decades her junior, but today she is proudly defending their bond as authentic and stereotype-free.
In an interview with THE STAR, Hurst shared that dating a 29-year-old up-and-coming dancehall artiste pushed her to embrace new rhythms, including learning to move like a true Jamaican as part of adjusting to his lifestyle.
"The younger girls can't keep up with me," she boasted. "I will be at parties and I can dance non-stop, and they will be at the side sitting down, out of breath," she added.
She said she dominates the dancefloor from start to finish, with the stamina to outlast everyone else - even those pulling off the most daring moves - noting that while her energy stands out, it is her overall qualities that truly set her apart.
"He may find someone with a better body, or younger, but not one loyal and trustful and don't play no games, because that's hard to find," she said.
For onlookers, she acknowledged that the 26-year age gap between them may appear wide, but for her, it is more about maturity than age.
She said she first connected with her new flame, Jevoy Hardware, on TikTok over a year ago, explaining that she only saw him properly during a live video chat in late July, where he appeared masked.
"I had no idea of his age, and it doesn't have anything to do with age, but his personality and how he treats me," she said.
Hurst, whose nickname is Pinky Promise, explained that as a couple with an online presence, they have had to navigate comments suggesting the relationship is about her beau securing a US green card. Dismissing the claim, she said her lover "doesn't need a green card".
"He has never asked me to sponsor him. ... I visit him once a month, he doesn't need to be over here," Hurst shared.
She told THE STAR that one of the qualities that drew her to the 29-year-old was his independence and ability to care for himself.
"He's out here not looking for someone to take care of him, but taking care of himself, so I don't get those red flags. I feel like he's an old soul in a young body," she said.
Opening up about her newfound love, she told THE STAR that love came unexpectedly living in Florida and caring for her then husband, who was battling cancer. She said during that period she formed a friendship with the young Jamaican.
"He is is a dancehall artiste, so he was Live all the time, and he encouraged me to start a Live. He brought over all his people. In the final months of my husband dying, I came off TikTok and he reached out."
She added, "He made sure I was eating and drinking ... praying for me and just checking on my well-being. I used to ignore him, because that's how I am, and I was going through a very traumatic time. He was on TikTok with girls flirting with him, so I was like, 'Yeaaah, player'," she stressed.
The two connected two months after Hurst's husband of 17 years died. She said their connection was instant when she visited Jamaica last August and they met in person for the first time.
"We had an instant chemistry and physical attraction to each other. I have never dated a Jamaican, and I have never had a man that cooks. I was amazed," she said, laughing at the memory.
The mother of two shared that her relationship with Hardware was initially difficult for her children, both in their 20s, to accept, but they have since grown supportive.
"They see that he is not trying to get a green card [and] it made them trust him, and appreciate how he treats me," she said.
For Hardware, the feelings are just as certain.
"I fell in love from the first time she came to Jamaica," he told THE STAR. "It was her personality ... everything about her; I don't even know how to explain, but it's just everything about her."
On the question of the age gap, he was direct: "The age gap was never a 'turn away'."
As for the criticism online, he says he is unmoved.
"I just focus on positive comments. I know that what me and Kimberly have is true, so there is no explaining to no one."
He also revealed that their relationship inspired him creatively, stating that he wrote a song, Shi Love Me, because "I have never really been in a relationship like this".
"This [is] really a relationship, this is a love story, and no joke thing like what I have been through; so I had to make a song about her," he said.
With almost one year into their relationship, Hurst said she plans to relocate to Jamaica to be closer to her partner.
"The long-term goal is for me to move to Jamaica. I work in the healthcare industry, and I am just trying to find a remote job so I can work from Jamaica. It is not about green card. If people know how hard it is to live in the US; you might have amenities, but you work like a dog," she said.
