Having married her Mr Wright, Westmoreland native Teniesha Singh has vowed to support her man, George Wright, “to the end”.

Teniesha and George, the member of parliament (MP) for Westmoreland Central, did the ‘Wright thing’ when they said ‘I dos’ in an intimate ceremony at the Savanna-la-Mar Parish Church last Saturday.

The newly-wed Teniesha said the wedding “has been long coming”, adding that she has been George’s partner for more than two decades.

Her man, George, did not return calls to THE STAR up to press time yesterday. The MP grabbed public attention for the wrong reasons after a video surfaced in 2021 that appear to show him physically assaulting a woman. The other person in the video was identified as Singh.

Both parties made reports of assault against each other, but did not press charges. Amid the public outrage, George was forced to take a leave of absence from the House of Representatives. He was asked to resign from the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and now sits as an independent in Parliament.

Meanwhile, Teniesha has given some insights about her emotions leading up to Saturday’s wedding.

“I was just glad, this has been long coming, and just to know that happiness prevails, irrespective of the odds we may encounter. George is not only growing personally, but with my collaborative support, he’s supposed to overcome any challenge he or us may face,” she said.

The wedding took place two days after the fairer Wright graduated from university, after successfully reading for a Bachelor of Science in business administration with programme and project management at the International University of the Caribbean.

“As you realise, everything was not out there because I wanted it to be private. I may not divulge everything that happened or how it happened, but being with someone for over two decades doesn’t need anything much to make a decision. You don’t have to question who and why you want to spend the rest of your life with that person.”

She reflected on the magnitude of the occasion stating, “I was just happy, irrespective of everything. It didn’t feel any way different because I know George. The only difference was that before I was Teniesha Singh and today I am Teniesha Wright.”

The newly wedded Teniesha has signalled her intention to support her husband in all his endeavours, especially as he continues his task of representing the people of Westmoreland Central. She quoted Proverbs 12 vs 4 which states: ‘ A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones’.

“I know that there is a future for me, and I know there is a future for George. I am steadfast in my belief that George’s purpose and I, in serving, we will, as a collaborative force, go further,” Teniesha said.

George, a first-time MP, turned up at the JLP’s annual conference on Sunday describing himself an an “independent labourite. It is unclear whether he will seek another term when the next parliamentary elections, due in 2025 are called. Nonetheless, his wife said he has a good platform on which to stand.

“Under his stewardship, we have realised so much down here in Westmoreland Central. I know a lot of people have benefited from him and I know he will go further,” Teniesha said before boldly declaring, “I will support him to the end”.
