Harold gets help - Good Samaritans show up for elderly man in Ferry ‘bush’
Despite the overcast skies, a ray of sunshine shone through the Ferry bushes on Thursday where a destitute Harold Moore lives in a thatched roof that is supported by shaky wooden posts.
Following this newspaper's publication of an article about Moore's challenging living conditions, many persons have responded with remarkable generosity. A group of philanthropists comprising deejay Little Lenny, Claude 'Big Stone' Sinclair, attorney-at-law Michelle Thomas and Kenneth Myrie visited Moore at his pitiful hut, located in the middle of an agricultural plot on the border of St Catherine and St Andrew.
The Good Samaritans delivered food and offer essential supplies as well as a King James version edition of the Bible.
Moore, 83, could not hide his excitement when he received his Bible, so much so that he raised it to the skies and offered thanks to the heavens.
"These things will certainly help me to manage better until further help for a home comes. I feel good, it is God who brought you people here. I feel good about each one of you. May the Lord bless you, and thank you for helping me."
Little Lenny, who handed the Holy Book to Moore, said he came across the story while browsing the Internet.
"It touched my heart. Harold needed help, so I reached out to Big Stone, knowing his history of philanthropy. We joined forces to provide essential items, including food and toiletries." Sinclair was equally moved by Moore's story.
"I was brought to tears upon learning about Harold Moore's situation through THE STAR article. I empathise with an individual of his age who has made significant contributions to Jamaica, only to find himself alone in an open woodland, without the support he rightfully deserves," said Sinclair.
"It was an honour for me to be a part of this initiative and to meet Harold. He expressed sincere appreciation for the care packages, but it was the Bible that resonated most with him, highlighting the simplicity of the man."
Moore, a former professional painter who has fallen on hard times, has been living in a thatched roof house in the bushes for the past eight months. He was touched by the outpouring of support and expressed profound gratitude for their assistance.
