Neville Sinclair, father of Nevia Sinclair, the St Elizabeth woman who was murdered by her jealous ex-boyfriend last year, says he is now looking for a sentence of life imprisonment or the death penalty, after the man pleaded guilty in court on Tuesday.

"Since the past year, Nevia's mother and I have not been getting any sleep at nights because of the memories of her death," Sinclair told THE STAR. "We have been getting support from the churches, families, and community members in our community, but it is very, very tough. Not even the room where the incident take place we hardly go into, and you know, it is the grace of God while we are still alive today." Jermaine Miller pleaded guilty to murder and burglary when he appeared in court.

"All this time we were just waiting to hear justice serve on the killer, and yesterday (Tuesday) is like everything just come back to me, especially when the pathologist read out the post-mortem report, and the amount of stab and cut mi daughter get, over six," said Sinclair. "For someone to look at another person who you and them live fi over five years and do them so, is a wicked act. But anyway we get a little satisfaction when him plead guilty."

He was unfaithful

Sinclair also told THE STAR that after his daughter's murder, he learnt that Nevia left Miller because he was unfaithful.

"Jermaine have a small daughter which him get when him and my daughter were friends and my daughter use to play the role of a mother to that child. But me a learn yah now that him get two more children since him inna lock-up," he said. "That mean that the boy had two other women pregnant while him an mi daughter was together, and that was what she found out why she decided to leave him, and that is why him kill har."

Sinclair noted that since Nevia's murder, he has heard of several other cases in which men killed their spouses.

"But I hope dem tek this incident as a learning point, and see that this man will serve the penalty for my daughter's death, because men need to learn that no man don't own any woman," he said. Miller reportedly went to the Sinclair family home in Brinkley district in January 2020, climbed through a window which led to Nevia's room, and stabbed her to death while she was asleep. While fleeing, he was spotted by Sinclair who raised an alarm. Miller was arrested and charged days later.
