Wanted American to be deported from Jamaica
An American man, who is allegedly wanted in the United States on several charges and who recently admitted to entering Jamaica illegally in 2010, was hit with a deportation order by the St James Parish Court on Friday.
Caesar Dias of Miami, Florida, had previously pleaded guilty to illegal entry, however, he remains in the custody of the local authorities.
In addition to the deportation order, presiding judge Kacia Grant slapped Dias with a $10,000 fine.
"Even though you remain in the custody of the police for other reasons, you will pay $10,000 or spend 30 days in prison if the fine is not paid. A deportation order is also made," Grant told Dias before he was handcuffed and taken out of the courtroom with a US Embassy representative behind him.
Reports are that on December 4, the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation (C-TOC) Branch received information that Dias, who entered the island illegally in 2010, was working as a barber in Montego Bay.
A C-TOC investigator went to the barbershop and accosted Dias and asked if he possessed valid identification or travel documents. Dias said he did not. Dias was then taken to the Freeport Police Station, where he later confessed that he came to the island illegally by boat from Miami in 2010.
Further checks revealed that Dias was being sought by US authorities for murder, robbery, and assault.
