Stalked by an old creep

August 21, 2023

Dear Pastor,

I am writing this letter to you because I need some advice. I am in my late 30s and I am still single. I don't want to put myself in any danger with any man because I have been living with trauma from my childhood days. I am baptised at a new church.

There is this man living in my community who keeps harassing me. Every time he sees me on the road he stops the car, as if he sees a red traffic light, and tries to get my attention. He is a sexual harasser, stalker and mischievous, low-life person. He is not even my type. He is at least twice my age. Whenever I tell him to get off my back, he refuses to do so.

He gazes at my physique instead of focusing on the road while he was at the wheel. Not only that, he manages to cause a traffic jam, making other drivers behind him curious about the reason for the congestion.

I have threatened to report the matter to the police, but he has taken it for granted.

One of my church rules says that I will have to marry someone who is saved. I don't believe that man suits my life, or in other words, is the right person for me. He doesn't even go to church. He said that he wants a Christian lady to marry. I said no way because, number one, he is one of Satan's disciples.

Please tell me what to do. I hope to hear from you soon.

J.

Dear J.,

I doubt very much that this man would consider himself a stalker. He has been admiring you and hoping that he would eventually win over your love. You said he is at least twice your age. He knows that some women prefer older men, so he is likely saying to himself that he is going to try his luck. So I repeat, I don't believe that he consider himself a stalker or a harasser. I hope by now he has got a clear message from you that you are not interested in him.

This man does not attend church, but that doesn't mean that he would not prefer to have a Christian woman as his wife. Many Jamaican men do not attend church, but their desire is to marry Christian women. They say Christian women make good wives.

I don't know why you call this man 'one of Satan's disciples'. I repeat, he is only trying to get your attention. He is admiring your sexy body. Remember now, don't think I am taking the side of this man. I don't know him, neither do I know you. I am only telling you, that poor man is trying to get your attention because he is looking for a wife.

I have said in the past, and I repeat now, the most beautiful thing on earth is the human body. Many men have got themselves into trouble because they have not been able to control themselves when they see a beautiful woman. It is important that this man recognises that there are laws against sexual harassment in Jamaica. Similarly, the Government has made clear its intentions to make stalking an offence.

I hope this man gets the message that you not interested, and he is fishing in the wrong pond. I wish you well, and I hope that the good Lord will provide a suitable man for you.
