Oakley clocks personal best 35.94 in 300m
WORLD Athletics Championships 4x400 metres silver medallist Dejanea Oakley was in fine form in the opening race of her indoor season at the Clemson Indoor Invitational on Saturday.
Competing for the University of Georgia, Oakley sped to a personal best 35.94 seconds to win the women's 300 metres. Her teammate, Shaquane Foote, formerly of Petersfield High, took the runner-up spot in 36.50.
It was also a one-two for Jamaican athletes in the women's 60 metres hurdles final. Veteran Danielle Williams, representing Adidas, captured the event in 7.94 seconds, ahead of former Hydel High athlete Oneika Wilson of Clemson University, who was second in 8.04.
In the men's 60 metres, Caymanian Devonte Howell of the University of Tennessee, in a very close finish, won the event in 6.49 seconds, the same time credited to his teammate Traunard Foldson. Another Tennessee athlete, T'Mars McCallum, grabbed third place in 6.59.
