Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) president, Wayne Shaw, says his association is still undecided who they will support for the upcoming JFF presidential elections set to take place on September 15.

According to Shaw, as things stands, it appears that there might not even be an election, even though there has been interest from St Ann president Danny Beckford and former JFF president Tony James. But he insists the KSAFA council would have to meet to finalise what their decision would be.

"As far as I am concerned, I don't think there will be a challenge. The president asked in his last board meeting to bring his mandate (give his full term, as his two years in office was the second half of captain Horace Burrell's term, after the former president passed away in 2017) and most have agreed. I didn't say KSAFA agree, so we will decide if we will nominate someone or we will refrain. But I don't think there will be an election this year, I think there will be a selection," he reasoned.

Most nominations

Although James has shown an interest, Shaw believes he tabled his bid a bit too late. "Maybe Mr James is a bit late as most nominations have gone in. It will be hard for Mr James to get four nominations at this time because most nominations have gone already. But we (KSAFA) will be having a meeting tonight (Tuesday) and the council will decide what we will do in that meeting, whether we will nominate someone or otherwise," he said.

The current JFF administration has recieved its fair share of criticism. Shaw insists that any decision they make will be for the benefit of the game locally. "The JFF has had a lot of criticisms, some of it our own doing, so we just need to get to the business of football, take the politics out of it, and just build the sport in Jamaica. The KSAFA might be doing their bit but we need the other parishes to get up to speed, by doing the right thing for the benefit of football and Jamaica.," he said.

KSAFA supported their former president, Ambassador Stewart Stephenson, who was Ricketts main rival in the last elections. However, Stewart did not put his hat in the race this time around.
