Floyd Green, member of parliament for South West St Elizabeth, has described himself as an avid fan and he outlined that his attendance at yesterday's Wray and Nephew/ Social Development Commission (SDC) National Community parish final at the Manley Horne Sports Park in the neighbouring constituency of South East St Elizabeth was a no-brainer for him.

Barbary Hall and Watchwell Greenfield, both in Green's constituency, took part in the play-off yesterday. Barbary Hall won the third-place title with a 20-run win over Watchwell Greenfield.

Green told Star Sports that as a big fan of sport the competition has helped to bring a lot of entertainment and excitement to his constituency.

"I am a massive cricket fan because when you grow up in St Elizabeth, you realise that you kind of grow and love cricket," said Green. "As you can see, whether it is the smallest competition, the people will come out and come out in drones because we love our cricket and all of us grew up playing some kind of sponge ball cricket," he said.

"The two sides that are in the third-place play-off is my constituency and so i came out to support them but i was hoping one of them would have been in the final, but it is good that two of them from my constituency made thus far and I think it is a great competition," Green said.

Getting involved

He pointed out that the competition has helped bring his constituency together because a lot of young men are now getting involved with the sport.

"I think it is great competition and it really helps to rally the communities and it really puts cricket on the front burner. I find that it brings out the young men and gives them something productive to do with their time," said Green.

"It has really rallied the community because when you walk around you will realise that a number of people have travelled up to support the team even though it is third placed off and it is true testament of well they were doing in the competition," he said.
