Producer freed of drug charges
Dancehall producer Attomatic was yesterday acquitted of drug charges in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court after prosecutors offered no evidence against him.
The 40-year-old producer, whose given name is Atto Wallace, had been charged with possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine, attempting to export cocaine, and conspiracy to export cocaine. However, Parish Judge Leighton Morris ordered his release after the prosecution offered no evidence on all counts.
The case stemmed from a February 2020 incident in which a package was mailed from a Kingston post office. After being collected by global courier firm DHL, the package was tested and found to contain 4.19 ounces of cocaine. During the investigation, the sender allegedly told police that Wallace had given her the package to ship, which led to his arrest.
However, Wallace's attorney, Chadwick Berry, pointed out weaknesses in the prosecution's case, arguing that it had failed to establish a direct connection between his client and the package. In light of this, the prosecution agreed that it was unable to mount a successful case, leading to the dismissal of all charges. Attorney Christopher Townsend also represented Wallace.
