For Kevin Powell and Shaneille Bramwell, what started as a chance encounter on professional networking social media site LinkedIn, quickly morphed into a fairy tale love story of epic proportions.

In a video that went viral on social media on the weekend, Powell proposed to Bramwell in front of a brand new KIA Carens motor car. While social media users thought the groom-to-be was substituting a diamond for an SUV, Powell told THE STAR that was not the case.

"No, the vehicle was already purchased. She knew about the car because we got the vehicle together. However, there was delay in the vehicle coming. So I had this plan in regards to doing the proposal when we were going to collect the car. So it was a couple months of planning between myself, her best friend and one of her friends who is actually an event planner," said Powell. His plan all came together last Tuesday. He said that he lured his bride-to-be to the KIA dealership on Oxford Road, New Kingston, under the pretext that they were finally picking up their long-awaited vehicle.

Bramwell said that due to the delays in the process of buying the car she was not excited for the day. That is until she saw her man standing in a heart made of rose petals.

"When I walked in and buss the corner, the first thing I saw was Kevin standing in the likkle rose heart thingy and the sign behind him say 'Will you marry me?' When I saw that me just feel weak," she said. Bramwell said that she was so stunned that she forgot she was there to pick up her car.

"Mi nuh remember nothing 'bout nuh car. Is inna the end all them a say remember seh is a car you come for too, enuh," she laughed.

Bramwell and Powell have been together since early 2021 and met online during the lockdowns enforced by the COVID-19 pandemic. Bramwell said that though their relationship is not 'as old as time', their bond is one built on communication and consistency.

"When it feels right it just feels right. And when you are genuine and you can just be yourself, it's just easy. Nothing felt forced, nothing felt hard, and I'm not saying we don't have our challenges, but because we genuinely like each other and that translated into love, were able to handle all of those stuff," she said. "Honestly, he's just the sweetest, gentlest person I've ever met. He's always so lovey dovey and caring. He always thinks about me in everything he does. Girl you know when them say them fairy tale love deh? I just never imagined that I would meet someone like this. I tell you Kevin, him really exceed all my expectations."

Gushing about his fiancee, Powell told THE STAR "She definitely is a genuine person. I love the fact that she is funny, she's down to earth and she allows me to be myself around her with no judgement whatsoever. We communicate anything at all, no matter how bad it may seem."

Though grateful for the attention, Powell said that his focus was more on the authenticity of emotion rather than the optics of the proposal.

"I just wanted the proposal to be like the icing on the cake," he said. Now a week later, Bramwell is just as pleased as she was on that fateful day.

"I'm not surprised about the engagement because it's something that we spoke about, something we wanted to do. I was just surprised that it was done in that way and on that day, I just wasn't expecting it," she said.
