Bodysuits adding heat to the summer
As the heat turns up this summer, so too does the fashion as female partygoers have dubbed the bodysuit as an 'outside' must-have.
Whether casting illusions of your 'waist-to-backside' ratio, or just making you feel more sexy, the 'hot gyal' staple attire, which is also known as a catsuit, is a fitted all-in-one outfit, usually made out of spandex. Coming in different cuts, colours and variations of sleeve and length, last Saturday's staging of Campari 'Respect the Bitter' saw women donning the clothing in abundance.
"Bodysuit grab up your body. Yeah, it show up your shape and a you dat. Das why every gyal affi come out inna bodysuit," said Samantha Sailsman, who stunned in her pink, long-sleeved look.
Though not donning a bodysuit at the moment, Fabbia Lewis told THE STAR: "Bodysuit make a girl feel girly. 'Member di bodysuit make your booty look big, your belly look flat, and [makes] you [look] clean and look nice."
Sailsman added: "The material, you have to buy the one wid di thick material weh grab up your body. But you see the good material, the thick one dem, it grab in and suck in every part a yuh. Spandex bodysuit a di best, 100 per cent."
Due to the tight nature of the clothing, the choice of undergarment to pair with the outfit is not an easy one.
Sailsman explained: "Yuh just have on yuh likkle, beenie, beenie piece a panty and yuh have on yuh brassiere. And who nuh wah put on nuh brassiere, you know yuh have di nipple cover, and a you dat. Suh yuh haffi style it, and you know yuh put on a likkle Bridget [sandals] or yuh beat a white Airforce (Nike sneaker) and a you dat, wid a bag to match."
Originally donned by dancers and athletes, partygoers say the comfort adds to the appeal, even though it might be a journey to find bodysuits that are unique. At the Campari event, Tasheena Campbell sported a long-sleeved pants bodysuit with attached bra, and stomach and chest cutouts. She admitted that she searched for an outfit to wear to the event.
"I just saw it and it just grab mi attention, so I just buy it. Is not everybody have them, the ones like these," she said. "You have to really go around and search. But if you looking for something more expensive, with a taste like Zara (luxury brand) or so, you know you haffi go like uptown or further out. I was in town and a did good price and it fit well, so a it."
