Ganja found in a pair of slippers

A sales clerk who was caught trying to smuggle ganja into a police lock-up in the Corporate Area was made the subject of a probation order when she appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court yesterday.

Roxanne Buchanan pleaded guilty to attempting to introduce a contraband in a lock-up.

It is reported that vegetable matter resembling ganja was found in a pair of slippers and food that was brought to the police lock-up.

"Somebody asked me to do the visits and I was in the line, about to go up [to the counter] and somebody approached me and said 'Roxanne, [name redacted] is asking if you can bring in this slipper for him. I said 'Sure' and I take it. When I reach up there, that is where them search and find the weed," Buchanan explained. The substance weighed a little over two ounces.

Senior Parish Judge Lori-Ann Cole-Montague expressed shock at the discovery of the drugs, stating that the "Criminal mind knows no bounds." Her comment comes in light of a personal encounter, having visited a lock-up in the past and saw ganja found in a slice of bread.

Cole-Montague urged Buchanan to be more vigilant when collecting packages from other persons. Instead of imposing a fine, Buchanan was made the subject of a probation order for a year.
