Despite recording a 36 per cent increase in murders last year, the Trelawny police said they are working hard to ensure the parish is safe.

The parish recorded 30 murders last year, eight more than in 2017. The Trelawny police said that there were 231 crimes reported in 2017, and it was reduced to 185 in 2018.

"The clear-up rate increased from 57 per cent to 72 per cent. That percentage puts us close to the top in the island," said Deputy Superintendent of Police Jermaine Latibeaudiere.

"We are sensing an improved relationship with the citizenry, as they feel that our work is reaping a level of success. What that does also is to tell criminals that there is a likelihood that they will be caught and brought before the courts," Latibeaudiere said.
