Lyrical war brewing? - New Alkaline track allegedly takes aim at Squash
Dancehall artiste Alkaline has been relatively quiet on the music scene recently, but his new song, ' State A Emergency', is getting attention, as some believe it takes aim at 6ix lead man, Squash.
In less than 24 hours since its release, State A Emergency racked up more than 300,000 views and is currently atop the local YouTube trending list.
FUELLING THE FEUD
The song dethroned last week's leaders, Daddy 1's Custom and Squash's Bulldog. Interestingly, Bulldog has been credited as the track which has fuelled the alleged lyrical feud.
In that song, Squash is said to have taken aim at Alkaline by pointing out how much the music scene has changed since he last dominated the space.
" Dem run weh lef dem place, when dem come back, it change up", Squash deejays, a subliminal link to Alkaline's absence from the entertainment scene.
But with State A Emergency, it seems Alkaline has 'clapped back' at Squash.
" MoBay, weh yuh say anunh nobody dem. Dem p***y deh can't diss me nuh day. Me deeven a hackle up myself dawg," he says in the song's intro, before going on in the verses to allegedly refer to Squash as 'turtleneck'.
The label has seemingly taken on a life of its own since, with Vendetta fans now flooding Squash's Instagram page with ,the turtle emoji, pointing out that he took aim at the wrong artiste.
If a lyrical war ensues, it will come as no surprise as members of the 6ix have been making links with Vybz Kartel, with Squash recently releasing two collaborations with the incarcerated deejay. It is no secret that Kartel and Alkaline have never been friends.
But neither Squash nor Alkaline has yet to come out directly and confirm a feud. When THE STAR spoke to 6ix's manager, Heavy D, he said he is aware of the buzz on the streets.
"Me not even wah comment on that right now innu," he said laughing. "All me know is everybody want a piece a di 6ix, and we nuh too blame dem fi wah try get some a di attention. We nah pay it no mind right now, we just know wah di people dem have fi say and we a watch everything. Too early to say how dis thing might go."
