Good fathers recognised at It’s A Party
Saturday night's staging of Bounty Killer's It's A Party was special, not only because it was the event's 20th anniversary, but because the event carried over into Father's Day celebrations.
The catalogue of songs dedicated to fathers may be relatively small, but the night's selectors saluted the fathers inside the UDC car park in downtown Kingston.
Konshen's Original Daddy was perhaps the most popular father's track on the night.
It was played by almost all the selectors, as they urged the women to salute all the men who have lived up to their responsibilities as a father.
In an interview with THE STAR, Bounty Killer said that he was honoured to share his birthday celebrations with the day dedicated to fathers.
He said that with so many of the nation's men still not playing an active role in the lives of their children, the ones who are ought to be celebrated.
"We haffi big up all the real fathers dem and also the ones dem weh play the father role, 'cause sometimes you're not a biological father, but you're a logical father cause yuh play the father figure to someone else's child," he said. "So to all the fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, big up unuh self."
The 'five star general', who celebrated his birthday a few days earlier, said he was happy for the support the event has received over the last two decades.
"I'm feeling grateful. This is the 20th anniversary. We been doing this from 1998, so it's been a great time. I'm not gonna say the journey never have it rough times, but It's A Party is for the people. We have a new sponsor this year, and as you can see from the ambience, it's a great energy. This is a major event," he said.
This year, the event was sponsored by liquor brand Martell.
A host of musicians, dancers, sound system operators and selectors came out to celebrate with Bounty.
Here are some of the highlights.
